Final Draft

One can never win a fight against sleep. It is common for students to not get enough sleep during school days.  Research shows that prolonged lack of sleep has been linked to increased risk of depression and anxiety, as well as deficits in memory and learning capabilities.

Most students require a minimum of 8 hours of sleep every day, but many fail to achieve this mainly due to factors such as school starting at 7:50, after school activities, and the heavy homework load. As a result, many students tend to exhibit signs of sleep deprivation during school hours because there’s simply no way they can get the necessary amount of sleep while meeting all their obligations.

School is supposed to teach students, not damage their health. School schedules should be adjusted so that students can get the necessary amount of sleep to function properly.

Rough Draft

One can never win a fight against sleep. It is common for students to not get enough sleep during school days, and research shows that it is natural for such thing to happen. Students require a minimum of at least 8 hours of sleep everyday, but many fail to do so. Mainly due to factors such as, school starting at 7:50 AM and the heavy homework load. As a result, many students tend to feel lethargic and drowsy during school hours.

Sleep is so strong that it doesn’t only effect your learning and your performance in class, but it also effects your mental health as it could cause depression and anxiety and ruin your circadian rhythm.

Reflection

I really enjoyed writing this opinion piece because we were told to write a maximum of 150 words. I didn’t have to worry about being detailed and at the same time I got to write about what I want to write, instead of a given topic.
